NCYN is essentially an incubator for new, youth-run grassroots nonprofits and social enterprises in Namibia. We believe that all Namibian youth have visions and ideas and deserve to be a part of the development of their country, especially those who who are living in moderate to extreme poverty in rural communities (the vast majority of Namibian youth). These future activists and social entrepreneurs have no other way to get support for their projects ideas. Thus, we provide a crucial portal for the development of youth in Namibia.
We help new youth-run social enterprises get off the ground in the following ways.
We give tiny grants ($100 or less) disbursed at regular intervals to help them get started
We make sure that they have the resources and the necessary permissions to communicate with us via internet and telecommunications.
We help them communicate with the world by giving them space on our website to describe their plans, solicit donations and sell local products that can generate income.
We help them acquire materials for their projects and scale up by helping them find partners in the U.S.
We provide technical support and guidance to help them plan and manage robust organizations that will be successful.
We link them to an international network of contacts who can give informal moral support and advising through mentorship, brainstorming and discussion.
We are supporting youth accross Namibia to form new social enterprises from the bottom up in all of the following areas:
- Communications Technologies
- Business and Entrepreneurship
- Health and HIV Aids
- Educational Opportunities
- Orphans and Vulnerable Children
- Cultural Diversity, Art & Music
- Rural Development
- Mental Health & Disability
- Sports & Games
Our goal for the coming year is to help youth in 4 regions of Namibia to start 15 new organizations, each with an annual operating budget and website.
